A GoFundMe organized by a friend says that Joyce persevered through several types of aggressive and painful cancers, including as a young mother to her now 21-month-old daughter, Hannah.
"She made everyone’s lives better who were lucky enough to know her," her obit said. "She was a genuine and selfless individual who loved doing and seeing all acts of kindness, big or small. She truly saw the good in everyone and believed in having a sense of community wherever she went."
The campaign had raised more than $80,000 as of press time.
A natural-born caregiver, Joyce previously worked as a nurse’s aide at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and North Shore University Hospital on Long Island, NY, her obituary says.
"She maintained her sense of humor even in her last days while enduring pain from her cancer’s spread – she continued to do a shoulder shrug dance in her bed and asked her family members for 'ice ice baby' when requesting ice packs to ease her head/body pains," her obituary says.
An avid hiker, Joyce was also remembered for her singing voice, "which she modestly didn’t showcase often," her obituary says. "Joyce fortunately imparted her love of music and singing in her daughter Hannah, who treats everyone to her daily singing as well."
